More
of the the Usual
(Every
once I a while someone sends me something political in an email. I recently
received one, mush lauded by conservatives I know, that really illustrates
how conservative propaganda distorts things. It was a list that tried
to compare our responses for President Bush to our responses to President
Obama. I present it as follows, with my own comments indented.)
If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to Cinco
de Cuatro in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the fourth of
May (Cuatro de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would
you have winced in embarrassment?*
People
make mistakes. The number of mistakes they make decides their competence.
That many of us winced with embarrassment when George W. spoke should
be no surprise. He had quite a track record. It was his constant display
of poor thinking and lack of natural curiosity that shaped his image.
The comparison between him and President Obama is poor indeed.
If
George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word advice would you have hammered
him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce
he is?*
Now
you're going so far as to complain about his spelling. If Dan Quayle
showed any real leadership qualities at all, his mistake would have
been endearing, instead of just another example of ineptitude. Again,
no comparison.
If
George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single
tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?
Every
president has to attend meetings and rallies. Even Republican presidents.
Earth Day may not mean anything to conservatives. It only calls for
the safety of the world we live on.
If
George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over
millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing
widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what
happened on 9-11?*
President
Obama did not know about the flight at the time, and so your comment
has no substance.
If
George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed
to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed d
and said this is more proof of how he inept he is on his own and is really
controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?*
President
Bush should have used a teleprompter, if he could read from it without
stumbling. If you think this comment will convince people that President
Obama is not intelligent and knowledgeable of the facts, and can hold
his own in any debate, you should get to know him a little better. Keep
trying. President Obama recognizes the important of presidential speeches,
and takes care to deliver them correctly.
If
George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout
the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans,
would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims
of racism and incompetence?*
Quite
an indictment, if it were true. These are the facts: there were 13 deaths
in entire Midwest flooding; Katrina had 1,836 confirmed deaths, with
705 missing. Another example of how shamelessly conservatives distort
the truth to raise the ire of their constituents.
If
George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation,
even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have
approved? **
I
just love how critical conservatives are whenever serious action has
to be taken to correct the major problems that their conservative policies
bring about. Do you really want to raise the issue of constitutional
authority? Under Republican rule, prisoners have been tortured, Americans
spied upon, the separation of church and state challenged - the list
goes on. President Obama has done what he deems necessary to save our
faltering economy, which conservatives instigated. Who is to blame for
that?
If
George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken
more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?
*
No,
but if we knew better, we wouldn't have approved of the conservative
deregulations of Wall Street that made the crisis happened that demanded
such bail outs and debt. Once again you are complaining about remedial
efforts to save the nation from conservatism. Nothing is forgotten.
If
George W.. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years,
would you have approved?**
Perhaps
you didn't hear how these increases will be lowered as time goes on
and the economy stabilizes? Just remember, none of these problems would
have arisen without conservative mismanagement. How would conservatives
have fixed the problem? With more of the same?
If
George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plans holdings of GM stock
by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?*
Again,
these are all remedial responses to conservative failings that brought
the nation to crisis. If GM had folded, which it very well might have
done, where would the retirement holdings be?
If
George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura
Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?*
While
handling an unbelievable number of national problems, President Obama
went to the theater. Compare that to President Bush speding an incredible
percentage of his time on vacation in Texas while all the problems we
face now were building. I guess you forgot to make the full comparison.
So,
tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and
impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in
5 months -- so you'll have three years and seven months to come up with
an answer. No common sense, naive uninformed voters did this to themselves.
insanity is wide spread. Real Americans are waking up.**
Real
Americans have woken up, which is why President Obama won, and the GOP
is at an all time low in public approval. I need not list all his accomplishments
- which are many. All you have to do is listen to how the world responds
to him, and see the hope in the eyes of people of good will. He is probably
going to be known as the greatest president in our lifetimes, and you
are wasting your energy in trying to tear him down in defense of failed
conservative policies. Or are you trying to get your own conservative
talk radio show?
It's
time that conservatives own up to their ideological errors and introduce
themselves to the 21st century. The world is changing. Not adapting
to it only makes us incapable of responding to it properly. It's time
to grow up.
