Conservative Compaints

Conservatives enjoy complaining. They've made a cottage industry of it, where professional complainers like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter make bundles of money not only misleading public opinion, but propagating an attitude of incivility and anger. While free speech gives them the right to do this, patriotism and morality give the rest of us a duty to condemn it.
McCain and Palin are now talking about how to repair the economy - now that it is crashing all around us. They are propounding Democratic ideas for regulation that they're been condemning for years.
But that shouldn't be surprising. Republicans only do the right thing when it's too late. Where were they in support for civil rights 30 years ago? Where were they for equal rights for women, before they needed one to bring some life to their campaign? Where were they for the last 30 years when it came to protecting the environment and supporting energy alternatives? The facts were all there. They ignored them. They discarded the lessons learned from the Great Depression and got rid of regulations that would have prevented this economic crisis. Think of Katrina. Think of how they ignored Al Qaeda, even after the previous administration warned them about it. With such a track record of always being on the wrong side, even when it comes to fighting the right war in the wrong place, how is it that they get any public support at all?
It's because they complain convincingly. They blame everyone but themselves, even when they are in control. And when circumstances are such that they have to complain about their own decisions, they disguise them to hide the smell. McCain/Palin want to clean up Washington of Republican corruption. Great! What's the plan? Get rid of all Republicans? And then what? Put Democrats in charge? Not likely. They are Repulicans! They'll rely on their same old cronies and lobbyists, and ignore all future problems like they always do, until it's too late.
This is why they have to use negative campaigning to the extent of lying. Complaining is how they connect with people, and earn their undeserved trust. They bad mouth Democrats and liberalism by holding up a mirror of themselves, and call them liberals.

Is that an exaggeration?

Think of when they bad-mouthed the Clinton plan for universal healthcare. They advertised that under the Clinton plan people would not be able to choose their own doctor, that needed treatments would be denied, and the cost would be astronomical. They were actually describing the HMO healthcare system that they eventually gave us. And well meaning conservatives bought this, hook, line and sinker. And still condemn liberals!

I'm not sure how bad things have to get before conservatives see the light. Right wing fanatics have been writing their talking points and blinding their eyes. They've catered to corporate CEOs, who now want the American people to rescue them from their own greed-so that they can be just as greedy as before.

This is a call for voters to use common sense in evaluating the issues, and in deciding who should lead us into the future.
